Find the Right Moving Boxes

Find the Right Moving BoxesMoving is stressful, but finding the right boxes to move your belongings shouldn’t be. Luckily, finding boxes may be one of the easiest things to do when moving, simply because there are a lot of inexpensive options to obtain them.

Buy ‘em
Buying boxes may not be the cheapest route to take, but it’s fast and simple. Not only do moving companies like U-Haul, Penske and Budget sell boxes in a variety of sizes at their stores, but you can also purchase boxes and have them shipped directly to you from companies like UsedCardboardBoxes.com and UBoxes. The key is to ask for a variety of sizes to accommodate your belongings.

You can also choose from a selection of boxes sold in stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. Hint: check with your local Kinko’s or other copying establishment. The boxes that reams of paper are shipped in are ideal for moving; they come with removable lids. Stores are likely to either sell or give you these boxes. (You might also check in your office’s own copy room!)

Find ‘em
But if you don’t want to pony up cash to buy your moving containers, you can find plenty that will suit your needs. It just takes some diligence and patience. Some of the best places to find boxes include:

  • Book stores. Book stores are often willing to part with their left-over boxes. This is a good option because the boxes typically will be uniform in size and sturdy, as they were designed to ship heavy items.
  • Liquor stores. Although their boxes tend to be smaller, they often come with dividers that can aid in packing your belongings.
  • Grocery stores. A great source for larger boxes. Do check that each box is dry and sturdy.
  • Electronic stores. Electronic stores usually have a wide variety of boxes that are free for the taking. Like book boxes, electronic boxes also tend to be incredibly sturdy.

Reuse ‘em
Check out online sites that help coordinate users needing recycled items. Reusing boxes is a plus for the environment, as well.

Think outside of the box
Cardboard containers are not your only option. There are also sturdier water-proof containers that you can buy from most any major store. Companies such as Rubbermaid and Sterilite offer plastic containers with snap-on, removable lids available in a number of sizes, shapes and colors.

Stock up
However you get your moving boxes, ensure you have plenty. You will always need more than you think. Also, set aside a few boxes on moving day for the things you’ll pack last, such as bedding, clothing and cleaning supplies.
